Victorian Britain is often associated with two things: prudishness and long novels. But is this accurate or fair? No! Victorians were not as repressed as we or they make them out to be.In fact, scandal is a Victorian phenomenon.

This course will attempt to explode the decorum of mainstream nineteenth-century fiction.

In addition to providing an overview of literature from the nineteenth century, each of the works will deal with secrets and scandals that are sneaky, deceptive, shocking and horrific in very different ways.
