English Department: Online Syllabi, 2008-2009
The following policy was adopted in Fall 2005 for 1) providing COLS and the department with electronic syllabi and 2) making syllabi available online for students.
1) Submit copies of all of your syllabi directly to the L&S Dean’s office and the department.
To submit your syllabus, send an e-mail message to lsoffice@uwosh.edu. They prefer to have your syllabi included as file attachments. If you’re not sure how to do this, Cary or Sandy would be glad to help you. If, for some reason, your syllabi cannot be sent as attachments, just copy and paste them into the body of the e-mail message.
When you send your syllabi, please put brucks@uwosh.edu into the Cc: line. While the Dean collects copies of all of our syllabi, we also need an archival copy in the department.
Lastly, indicate in the body of the message where you will be making your syllabus available for students (see Options below). We will then indicate the location on the English Department’s Online Syllabi page and include a link, if needed.
2) Post your syllabi online for your students to access.
Four options exist for accomplishing this (and you may use more than one option):
a. Placing your syllabi on electronic reserve (e-reserve) at Polk Library.
b. Posting your syllabi on your own website.
c. Creating a link to a Word file from the online syllabi page.
d. Placing your syllabi on Desire2Learn (D2L) (but see note under "d").
a. Electronic reserve (e-reserve): Unfortunately, the deadline for submitting materials for e-reserve with a guarantee that it will be available for students on the first day of class has passed. According to the reserve desk, materials submitted by the first half of this week will probably be available on the first day of class, but the library will not guarantee that they will be.
b. Your own website: You each have a website account on the English Department web server. If you would like to place your syllabi onto your website, see Sandy or Cary for assistance.
c. Word files: When you submit your electronic archival copy to L&S and to the department (see #1 above), you can simply indicate in your message that you would this file uploaded to the department's online syllabi page.
d. Desire2Learn (D2L): Every instructor at UW Oshkosh has an account on D2L. Your D2L username and password are identical to your TitanMail username and password. If you log into your D2L account, you will see that your classes and rosters are already set up.
Please note: if you put your syllabus on D2L, you still must provide an alternative method of access for the department, as D2L is available only for those enrolled in your courses, and department policy requires a publicly accessible syllabus.
