Title: Coming of Age in America: An Odyssey of Self-Discovery

This seminar will focus on the theme of transitioning from youth to adulthood in America. Students will examine through books and film the often difficult passage from the teen years to adulthood. Central texts are The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky, Roadtrip Nation: A Guide to Discovering Your Path in Life by Mike Marriner and Nathan Gebhard, Superstud: Or How I Became a 24-year-old Virgin by Paul Feig, This Boy's Life by Tobias Wolff, and The Writer's Resource by Maimon, Perits & Yancey. Students will also watch the films Stand By Me, Destination Unknown, Two Days in October, and This Boy's Life.
