Title: Basketball's Societal Impact

Course: WBIS 188

Section: 028

Instructor: Vielbig

This course will explore the game of basketball, from conception to the present, and its societal impact. As a class, we will research the history of the game. More specifically, we will look at the circumstances surrounding Dr. Naismith's invention of basketball and how the game has evolved in the last hundred years. The class will also look at how Title IX, corporate America, and specific coaches have influenced the game in positive and negative ways. The issue of success will also be addressed, using John R. Wooden's "Pryamid of Success" and Pat Summitt's "Definite Dozen System" as examples.
